About Brandon Mountain
Brandon Mountain rises at the northern end of the Dingle Peninsula in County Kerry. Its western side climbs in long slopes from the sea, while the east falls in steep cliffs to a chain of small lakes in the coum above Faha. The ridge runs north to Brandon Far North Top and south to Binn Ard. It is a Furth, a Hewitt, a Marilyn, an Arderin and a Vandeleur-Lynam.
Two routes are popular. From the west, the Saint's Road (Cosán na Naomh) climbs from Ballybrack with wooden crosses marking the way. From the east, a path from Faha near Cloghane passes a grotto, enters the coum and climbs a steep, rocky section onto the ridge near the summit.
The summit carries the remains of an early Christian oratory linked to Saint Brendan. Cloud forms here often. On the eastern route, the climb out of the coum is steep and exposed, and in mist the edge of the eastern cliffs is close to the path.
Brandon Mountain is 952 m (3,122 ft) high with 927 m of prominence. It is in Dingle Peninsula - W of Dingle, Ireland. OS grid reference Q460116. It is the highest of the 21 summits Peakify lists in Dingle Peninsula - W of Dingle. The nearest summits are Faha Ridge (0.6 km), Sliabh a' Choimin (0.9 km) and Brandon Far North Top (1.3 km).
