About Coomacarrea
Coomacarrea is one of the main summits of the Glenbeigh Horseshoe, the ring of hills on the north side of the Iveragh Peninsula. Teeromoyle Mountain lies 1.1 km north-west along the ridge, Mullaghnarakill 2.7 km north-west and Meenteog 2.7 km east. Below the north-east face lies Coomasaharn Lake, ringed by cliffs.
You can climb it as part of the horseshoe or as a shorter out-and-back from the Coomasaharn side. The ridges are grassy with rocky edges on the cliff side. Stay back from the cornice-like lip of the cliffs in cloud or snow.
The summit looks west to Dingle Bay and the Blasket Islands on a clear day. It is a Hewitt, a Marilyn, an Arderin and a Vandeleur-Lynam.
