About Croghan Mountain
Croghan Mountain (606 m), also known as Croghan Kinsella, stands on the border between County Wicklow and County Wexford, south of the main Wicklow Mountains. It is a rounded hill with forestry and farmland on its lower slopes and heather near the top. With 522 m of prominence it stands well above the surrounding country; the nearest higher hill is Croaghanmoira (662 m), 14.0 km north.
Prospectors found gold in the streams that drain the hill, which set off a gold rush, and the Gold Mines River on its eastern side carries the name.
Tracks and lanes lead up through the lower slopes. The open top is heather and grass.
Croghan Mountain is 606 m (1,988 ft) high with 522 m of prominence. It is in Wicklow Hills S, Ireland. OS grid reference T130728. It is the 20th highest of the 44 summits Peakify lists in Wicklow Hills S. The nearest summits are Annagh Hill (5.8 km), Preban Hill (7.7 km) and Cushbawn (10 km).
