About Knockmore
Knockmore rises on Clare Island, the large island at the mouth of Clew Bay off the Mayo coast. The hill fills the western half of the island, and its north side falls to the Atlantic in steep cliffs. Because it rises straight from the sea, its prominence equals its height of 462 m, which makes it a Marilyn.
You reach the island by ferry from Roonagh Quay and walk from the harbour on the east side along the island roads, then up open grass and heather to the top. The upper slopes are pathless in places, and the cliff edge needs care in wind or mist.
From the summit you look across Clew Bay to Croagh Patrick and north to Achill.
Knockmore is 462 m (1,516 ft) high with 462 m of prominence. It is in South Mayo and Central Galway, Ireland. OS grid reference L669861. It is the 19th highest of the 29 summits Peakify lists in South Mayo and Central Galway. The nearest summits are Knocknaveen (3.0 km), Tievereivagh (10 km) and Minaun (16 km).
