About Beinn Dearg
Beinn Dearg is the highest of the big hills between Loch Broom and Strath Oykel, south-east of Ullapool. It is a Munro and a Marilyn. Its neighbours make a natural group: Meall nan Ceapraichean lies 1.4 km to the north, Cona' Mheall 1.6 km to the east and Ceann Garbh 1.9 km to the north. The nearest higher mountain is Sgurr Mor in the Fannichs, 10.9 km to the south-west.
The standard route starts at Inverlael, near the head of Loch Broom, and follows tracks through forestry into Gleann na Sguaib. From the col at the top of the glen, an old stone dyke runs up the ridge towards the summit plateau. Walkers often add Cona' Mheall and Meall nan Ceapraichean for a longer round.
The summit plateau is broad and stony, and the dyke helps with navigation in cloud. The crags above Gleann na Sguaib are steep, so keep to the line of the dyke near the top.
Beinn Dearg is 1,084 m (3,556 ft) high with 810 m of prominence. It is in Highland, Scotland. It is the 54th highest of the 1,458 summits Peakify lists in Highland. The nearest summits are Beinn Dearg North Top (1.0 km), Meall nan Ceapraichean (1.4 km) and Ceann Garbh (1.9 km).
