About Beinn Udlamain
Beinn Udlamain is the highest of the Drumochter hills west of the main road and the railway. It reaches 1010m (3,314 ft) on a broad, grassy ridge, with Sgairneach Mhor 2.1 km to the east and A' Mharconaich to the north. A line of old fence posts runs along the ridge and over the summit.
Most walkers start at Balsporran Cottages, north of the pass summit. You climb to Geal-charn and A' Mharconaich, follow the ridge south to Beinn Udlamain, then continue to Sgairneach Mhor and descend to the road. The high start and gentle ground make this one of the easier days for a group of Munros.
The tops are broad and look alike in cloud, so the fence line helps. The plateau is exposed to wind, and in winter it can be cold and featureless.
