Ben Wyvis stands on its own in Easter Ross, a long whaleback of a hill that looks like a single great wall from the east. Its summit, Glas Leathad Mor, reaches 1046m (3432ft) and rises 691m above its col, which makes it a Munro and a Marilyn. The broad summit ridge carries a carpet of woolly fringe moss and runs north to Tom a' Choinnich (954m), 1.7km away, while An Cabar (946m) sits 2.2km to the south-west at the end of the ridge.
The usual way up starts at Garbat on the main road between Garve and Ullapool. A path climbs through forestry and then straight up the steep, pitched shoulder of An Cabar, after which the gradient eases and the walking along the mossy ridge to the summit is easy underfoot.
The summit ridge is wide and featureless, so in cloud you need careful navigation to find the top of An Cabar on the way down. The ridge takes the full force of the wind and holds snow into spring.
