About Croaghgorm

Croaghgorm (674 m) is the highest of the Bluestack Mountains, the rough granite hills north of Donegal town. The summit sits on a broken ridge of rock and bog. Ardnageer (642 m) is 2.5 km north-east and An Leamhaigh Mhor (671 m) 1.9 km north-west, with other tops close by. Nothing higher stands nearby.

The usual approach is from the Lough Eske side to the south, climbing through wet ground onto the ridge. The terrain is rough and pathless, with granite slabs, bog and small lakes, and walking is slower than the height suggests.

In mist the ridge is confusing, with many similar knolls. Carry a map and compass.
