About Dow Crag

Dow Crag stands on the ridge running south through the Coniston fells, 1.0km west of The Old Man of Coniston. Its east face is a wall of buttresses and gullies above Goat's Water, one of the best-known climbing cliffs in the Lake District. The west side, towards the Duddon valley, is grass. Brim Fell lies 1.1km north-east and Grey Friar 2.6km north.

From Coniston, walkers follow the Walna Scar Road to Goat's Water and climb to Goat's Hawse, the col between Dow Crag and the Old Man, then turn south along the ridge to the summit. The other route stays on the Walna Scar Road to the top of the pass and follows the ridge north over Brown Pike and Buck Pike. The summit is a block of rock that needs a few easy scrambling moves.

In mist, keep away from the east edge. The gullies cut back close to the ridge path.

Dow Crag is 778 m (2,552 ft) high with 129 m of prominence. It is in Cumbria, England. It is the 74th highest of the 273 summits Peakify lists in Cumbria. The nearest summits are Buck Pike - Seathwaite Fell (0.6 km), Brown Pike (1.2 km) and Brim Fell (1.1 km).
