About Grey Crag

Grey Crag sits on the high moorland between Longsleddale and Wet Sleddale, on the eastern edge of the Lake District. It forms the southern end of a broad plateau that also holds Tarn Crag, 1.1 km to the north-west, and Harrop Pike, 0.7 km to the north-east. The summit is a small rocky outcrop above wide areas of bog.

The usual start is Sadgill at the head of the Longsleddale road. A path climbs the steep slope east of the valley to the plateau, then crosses wet ground to the summit. Most walkers make a round that includes Tarn Crag, following the old fence line across the moor, and return to Sadgill.

Grey Crag is a Wainwright, a Hewitt, a Nuttall and a Birkett. The plateau is wet and featureless, so a compass is useful in mist. Longsleddale is quiet, and parking at Sadgill is limited.

Grey Crag is 638 m (2,093 ft) high with 41 m of prominence. It is in Cumbria, England. It is the 218th highest of the 273 summits Peakify lists in Cumbria. The nearest summits are Harrop Pike (0.7 km), Tarn Crag (1.1 km) and Howes (3.2 km).
