About Holme Fell
Holme Fell rises north of Coniston, between Yewdale and Little Langdale. It is a rough top of crags and heathery knolls, with two small old reservoirs on the summit plateau and the deep Hodge Close quarry on its northern side. Wetherlam, the nearest higher fell, stands 2.7km to the west.
Most walkers start at Yew Tree Tarn on the Coniston to Ambleside road and climb through woodland to the summit crags. From Hodge Close, a path climbs the north side past the quarry spoil. The paths are short but rocky, with a few steep pulls, and the woods below the summit hold plenty of tree roots and wet slabs.
Keep away from the edges of the Hodge Close quarry. Its walls drop sheer into a flooded pit, and the rims have little fencing.
Holme Fell is 316 m (1,036 ft) high with 165 m of prominence. It is in Lake District S, England. OS grid reference NY315006. It is the 12th highest of the 22 summits Peakify lists in Lake District S. The nearest summits are Birk Fell Man - Birk Fell (2.3 km), Lad Stones (2.4 km) and Lingmoor Fell (4.2 km).
