About Knockmealdown
Knockmealdown rises at the centre of the Knockmealdown Mountains, the ridge between the Galtees and the Comeragh Mountains. The summit is a broad, heathery dome, and a wall follows the ridge. Knockmoylan lies 0.9 km north and Knocknagnauv 2.3 km east. It is a county top, a Hewitt, a Marilyn, an Arderin and a Vandeleur-Lynam.
Walkers often start at the Vee, the pass on the road between Clogheen and Lismore, and follow the ridge east over Sugarloaf Hill. The ground is heather and bog with a steep climb in places. Others climb from the south.
From the summit you look north over the Tipperary plains to the Galtees and south towards the Blackwater valley. In mist the wall helps keep you on line.
