About Mount Keen

Mount Keen rises between Glen Esk to the south and Glen Tanar to the north, at the eastern end of the Mounth. It is the most easterly Munro, and a Marilyn. The summit is a rounded dome of granite and heather, and the old Mounth Road, a drove road over to Deeside, passes over its western shoulder. Little Pap, the nearest higher hill, lies 14.6 km to the west.

From the south you start at Invermark at the head of Glen Esk. A track runs up Glen Mark past the Queen's Well, a stone monument, and then the Mounth Road zigzags up the hill. A path leaves it for the summit. From the north the route starts in Glen Tanar and follows the Water of Tanar on a long track before joining the Mounth Road.

The Glen Esk route is shorter. The Glen Tanar approach suits a bike for the long glen track.
