About Outerside
Outerside rises between Coledale and Stonycroft Gill, west of Keswick. It is a small ridge of heather above Braithwaite, standing apart from the higher fells around it. Scar Crags is 0.8 km south and Causey Pike 1.0 km south-east, while Barrow lies 1.6 km east and Grisedale Pike 1.7 km north-west across Coledale.
From Braithwaite, walkers often climb Barrow first, then cross to the shoulder of Stile End and up the heather ridge to Outerside. From Stair, an old mine road climbs beside Stonycroft Gill and gives a shorter approach from the south. The paths are narrow and run through heather.
Outerside looks across Coledale to Grisedale Pike and up to Sail and the head of the valley. Walkers add it to a round with Barrow, or with Causey Pike and Scar Crags via Sail Pass.
Outerside is 568 m (1,864 ft) high with 74 m of prominence. It is in Lake District C&W, England. OS grid reference NY211214. It is the 13th highest of the 70 summits Peakify lists in Lake District C&W. The nearest summits are Scar Crags (0.8 km), Causey Pike (1.0 km) and Ard Crags (1.7 km).
