About Sgurr Alasdair

Sgurr Alasdair is the highest summit of the Black Cuillin and of the Isle of Skye. It is a Munro and a Marilyn, and as the island's high point its prominence equals its height. Its summit is a small rocky point above Coire Lagan. Sgurr Sgumain lies 0.2 km to the south-west and Sgurr Mhic Choinnich 0.3 km to the north, with the Inaccessible Pinnacle on Sgurr Dearg 1.0 km to the north-west.

The usual route starts at Glenbrittle. A path climbs to Loch Coire Lagan, set in bare gabbro slabs below the main ridge. From there you climb the Great Stone Chute, a long, steep gully of scree, to the gap between Sgurr Alasdair and Sgurr Thearlaich. A short, exposed scramble up the ridge leads to the summit.

The Stone Chute is loose, and rocks knocked down by people above are a real hazard. The Cuillin rock upsets compasses, so learn the line before cloud comes in.

Sgurr Alasdair is 992 m (3,255 ft) high with 992 m of prominence. It is in Highland, Scotland. It is the 166th highest of the 1,458 summits Peakify lists in Highland. The nearest summits are Sgurr Thearlaich (0.1 km), Sgurr Mhic Choinnich (0.3 km) and Sgurr Sgumain (0.2 km).
