Suilven is one of the best-known shapes in Scotland. From Lochinver it looks like a single tower, but the hill is a narrow ridge running east to west with steep rock at both ends. Its highest point is the western dome, Caisteal Liath, at 731m (2398ft). With 496m of prominence it is a Graham and a Marilyn, and Canisp, its nearest higher neighbour, stands 5km to the east across the moor.
The usual approach is from Lochinver along the private road to Glencanisp Lodge, then a long track and path across the moorland to the foot of the hill. A steep, eroded gully path climbs from the north side to the Bealach Mor in the middle of the ridge, and from there a path leads west to the summit.
The walk-in is long, so leave plenty of daylight. The ridge east of the bealach is narrower and rockier, with some exposed scrambling towards the eastern top. The summit gives a wide view of Assynt's scattered hills and lochans.
Suilven is 731 m (2,400 ft) high with 496 m of prominence. It is in Highland, Scotland. It is the 948th highest of the 1,458 summits Peakify lists in Highland. The nearest summits are Meall Meadhonach West Top (0.9 km), Meall Meadhonach (1.2 km) and Meall Beag (1.4 km).
