About Crag Hill

Crag Hill rises to 839 m (2,753 ft) at the centre of the north-western fells, where the ridges from Causey Pike, Grasmoor and Wandope meet. Older maps call it Eel Crag. It is a Wainwright, Hewitt, Nuttall, HuMP and Birkett, with 117 m of prominence. Grasmoor, the nearest higher fell, is 1.8 km to the west, and Sail lies 0.5 km to the east.

Most walkers climb it from Braithwaite. One route follows the old mine track up Coledale to Coledale Hause and climbs east from there. The other follows the ridge from Causey Pike over Sail, with a narrow, rocky final rise. Many people take in Crag Hill on the Coledale Horseshoe.

The summit is a stony plateau with a trig point. On the north side the ground drops in crags into Coledale, so keep to the path in mist.
