About Knott Rigg
Knott Rigg runs north-east from Newlands Hause, the pass between Buttermere and Newlands, as a narrow grassy ridge between Keskadale and the Sail Beck valley. Ard Crags continues the ridge 1.3 km to the north-east. Wandope and Crag Hill rise above it to the north-west, and Robinson lies 2 km south across the pass.
The usual start is the car park at Newlands Hause. Because the road climbs most of the height for you, the walk to the summit is short. A clear path climbs the grassy slope and follows the ridge to the top. Most walkers carry on to Ard Crags and either return the same way or drop down to Keskadale and walk back along the road.
The ridge is easy and safe in good weather. Its slopes fall steep on both sides into the valleys, and you look across to Robinson and up to the Grasmoor fells.
Knott Rigg is 556 m (1,824 ft) high with 53 m of prominence. It is in Lake District C&W, England. OS grid reference NY197188. It is the 16th highest of the 70 summits Peakify lists in Lake District C&W. The nearest summits are Ill Crag (0.4 km), Sail (1.4 km) and Crag Hill (1.5 km).
