About Tarn Crag

Tarn Crag stands between Easedale and Far Easedale, west of Grasmere. Its craggy southern face drops to Easedale Tarn, while the summit is a small rocky knoll on a ridge running down from the higher ground of Codale Head and Sergeant Man. Calf Crag lies 1.1 km north across Far Easedale and Blea Rigg sits 1.5 km south.

Walkers start from Grasmere. The popular path to Easedale Tarn gives the first half of the climb; from there a rougher route goes up the eastern shoulder beside the crags. Another option climbs out of Far Easedale onto the ridge from the north. Above the tarn the ground is steep in places, with rock and grass mixed together.

It is a Wainwright and a Birkett. Many walkers combine it with Sergeant Man and Blea Rigg for a round of the head of Easedale.
