About Calf Crag
Calf Crag stands at the head of Far Easedale, above Grasmere, where the ridge from Helm Crag and Gibson Knott meets the higher ground of the central fells. It is a small rocky summit with a cairn. Gibson Knott lies 1.6 km east, Tarn Crag 1.1 km south and Steel Fell 1.9 km north-east.
Most walkers reach it on the Grasmere round over Helm Crag, Gibson Knott and Calf Crag. The ridge is a mix of rock, grass and boggy hollows, with short ups and downs between the tops. From Calf Crag you drop south into Far Easedale and follow the valley path back to Grasmere. You can also walk the round the other way, climbing Far Easedale first.
The ground between Gibson Knott and Calf Crag is wet in places, and the path is faint in mist. The summit gives a long view back along the ridge to Grasmere and down Far Easedale.
Calf Crag is 537 m (1,762 ft) high with 50 m of prominence. It is in Lake District C&W, England. OS grid reference NY301104. It is the 28th highest of the 70 summits Peakify lists in Lake District C&W. The nearest summits are Tarn Crag (1.1 km), Ullscarf (2.0 km) and Codale Head (1.8 km).
