About High Pike

High Pike stands at the northern edge of the Lake District, above the villages of Caldbeck and Hesket Newmarket. Its northern slopes drop to farmland, so the view from the top looks out over the Solway Firth to Scotland as well as back into the Back o' Skiddaw fells. Carrock Fell lies 2.7 km south-east, and Hare Stones and Great Lingy Hill sit close by to the south-west.

The fell carries a trig pillar and a slate bench on its summit. The Caldbeck Fells were mined for lead and copper, and you pass old spoil heaps and tracks on the way up. The usual routes start from Fell Side or Nether Row near Caldbeck and follow grassy tracks to the top. From Mosedale you can make a longer round over Carrock Fell.

High Pike is a Wainwright, a Hewitt, a Nuttall and a Birkett. The ground is easy, but the open moorland to the south is featureless, so carry a map and compass in mist.

High Pike is 658 m (2,159 ft) high with 68 m of prominence. It is in Cumbria, England. It is the 197th highest of the 273 summits Peakify lists in Cumbria. The nearest summits are Drygill Head (0.8 km), Hare Stones (0.7 km) and Great Lingy Hill (1.3 km).
