About High Pike
High Pike sits on the ridge between Scandale and Rydal Beck, between Low Pike, 1.0 km south, and Dove Crag, 1.6 km north. A dry-stone wall runs along the crest. The summit rises little above the ridge, but it marks the point where the climb from Ambleside eases. It is a Wainwright and a Birkett.
Most walkers start in Ambleside and take the lane up to Low Sweden Bridge, then follow the ridge over Low Pike to High Pike. The path stays beside the wall on grass and rock, with a short rocky step near Low Pike. Walkers on the Fairfield Horseshoe come down this way after Dove Crag.
The wall makes navigation simple in mist. To the east you look across Scandale to Red Screes.
