About Lonscale Fell
Lonscale Fell forms the eastern end of the Skiddaw group, 2 km east of Skiddaw Little Man. Its summit is a grassy dome, but its eastern end breaks into steep slopes and crags above the Glenderaterra valley. Latrigg sits 2.5 km to the south, below the fell's southern slopes.
The usual start is the car park at the end of Gale Road, above Keswick. Follow the main Skiddaw path up Jenkin Hill, then turn east along the fence to the summit. A good round returns by the Cumbria Way, which contours around the east end of the fell towards Skiddaw House before turning back south along the Glenderaterra valley.
That Cumbria Way path runs across a steep slope below Lonscale Crags and has a sharp drop on one side, so take care in ice or high wind. From the summit you look east to Blencathra and south over Keswick.
