Sgurr nan Gillean is the sharp peak that dominates the view from Sligachan, at the northern end of the Black Cuillin on Skye. It is a Munro and a Marilyn. Am Basteir and the Bhasteir Tooth lie 0.6 km to the west, and Bruach na Frithe 1.1 km to the west. Pinnacle Ridge, a famous line of rock towers, runs north from the summit.
The standard way up is the Tourist Route from Sligachan. A path crosses the moor and climbs into Coire Riabhach, then over scree and boulders to the south-east ridge. The last section up the ridge is an exposed scramble on gabbro to a tiny summit. The west ridge, from Bealach a' Bhasteir, gives a harder scramble. Pinnacle Ridge is a rock climb.
The summit is small and airy, with big drops on each side. The Cuillin rock disturbs compasses, so learn the descent line before cloud comes down.
