Sgurr Thuilm stands at the head of Glen Finnan, north of the village of Glenfinnan and the railway viaduct. The standard approach follows the private track from Glenfinnan under the viaduct and up the glen to Corryhully bothy. From there you climb the long south ridge of Sgurr Thuilm. Many walkers continue west along the ridge to Sgurr nan Coireachan and descend back to the glen, a round known as the Glenfinnan horseshoe.
The ground above the track is rough and wet in places, with rocky knolls on the ridge. In mist the ridge needs careful navigation, as spurs lead off it in several directions.
