About Sheffield Pike
Sheffield Pike stands between the Glenridding valley and Glencoyne, above the western shore of Ullswater. Its south-east ridge rises over the rocky knoll of Heron Pike, and to the west a col called Nick Head links it to the main Helvellyn range at Green Side, 1.7 km away. Glenridding Dodd lies 1.3 km south-east at the end of the ridge, and Hart Side 1.8 km north-west.
From Glenridding, a path climbs to the col behind Glenridding Dodd and follows the south-east ridge over Heron Pike to the summit. The ridge is steep, with rock and a little easy scrambling if you seek it out. A gentler route walks up past the old Greenside lead mine and climbs to Nick Head, then east to the top. Linking the two makes a good round.
The summit is a broad top of grass and peat. Its best view looks down Ullswater from the edge above Glencoyne.
