About Wether Hill

Wether Hill sits on the long north-south ridge of the Far Eastern Fells, between Loadpot Hill 1.3 km north and the climb towards High Raise in the south. The top is a wide, grassy swell with little to mark it, and the database lists a second top of Wether Hill 0.5 km south that is a few metres higher at 676 m. It is a Wainwright and a Birkett.

The usual approaches come up from Martindale or Howtown on the Ullswater side, climbing through Fusedale or over Steel Knotts, or from Bampton in the east. Once on the ridge, the line of the old Roman road known as High Street gives easy walking on grass and peat. Wet ground is common in the hollows.
