About Burnbank Fell
Burnbank Fell stands at the north-west corner of the Lake District, the last high ground of the Loweswater Fells before the land drops towards the coastal plain. Its slopes fall to Loweswater on the east side. Blake Fell, the highest of the group, lies 1.3 km south, and Gavel Fell 2.5 km south.
The fell is grass from foot to top, with conifer plantation on its lower slopes above Loweswater. Walkers often take it in as the first or last summit on a round of the Loweswater Fells with Blake Fell and Gavel Fell, starting from Loweswater. The ground is easy underfoot but featureless, so a compass helps in cloud.
The summit gives open views west to the Solway Firth and the Scottish hills beyond, and east across Loweswater to the Buttermere fells.
