Armboth Fell rises above the west shore of Thirlmere, on the broad moorland ridge between Thirlmere and the Watendlath valley. High Tove is 1.0 km north-west, and High Seat 2.5 km north. The summit is a rocky knoll in a sea of grass and bog.
The usual ascent starts from the Armboth car park on the minor road along Thirlmere's west shore. The bridleway to Watendlath climbs through woodland onto the moor, and the summit lies a short way south of it. From Watendlath, the same bridleway crosses the ridge from the west. The ground off the path is wet and tussocky.
The top looks east across Thirlmere to the Helvellyn range, and west to the Borrowdale fells. High Tove and Armboth Fell make a short outing together from the same car park.
