Hen Comb stands south of Loweswater in the western fells, a narrow grassy ridge on the west side of the Mosedale valley. Mellbreak lies 1.7km east across Mosedale, Gavel Fell, the nearest higher fell, 1.6km west, and Great Borne 1.9km south-west.
Walkers start at Loweswater village and walk into Mosedale, then climb the grassy north ridge to the summit. The valley floor below the fell is marshy, so expect wet ground before the climb begins. The ridge itself is grass with a faint path.
Few walkers come here, and the summit looks across Mosedale to the steep west face of Mellbreak. You can return the same way or drop to the head of Mosedale and walk back down the valley.
