About Carn Eighe

Carn Eighe stands at the heart of the hills between Glen Affric and Loch Mullardoch. It is the highest mountain north of the Great Glen, a Munro, a Marilyn and a historic county top. Mam Sodhail, 0.9 km to the south, is almost as high, and the two peaks form the centre of a long ridge. To the east the ridge runs out over Stob a' Choire Dhomhain, Stob Coire Dhomhnuill and Sron Garbh, and Beinn Fhionnlaidh sits 2.2 km to the north-west.

The classic round starts at the car park at the west end of the public road in Glen Affric, walks into Gleann nam Fiadh, and climbs the east ridge over Sron Garbh. A section of rocky pinnacles on this ridge needs some easy scrambling, though paths skirt most of it. You then return over Mam Sodhail. Walkers also reach Carn Eighe from Loch Mullardoch in the north, often adding Beinn Fhionnlaidh.

This is a long day in remote country. The summit has a large cairn and views across Kintail, Affric and Torridon.
