Stob a Choire Leith lies 0.6 km to the south-west along the ridge, Stob Coire na Ceannain 0.9 km to the north-east, and Caisteal 1.8 km to the south-west. Aonach Beag, the nearest higher hill, stands 6.9 km to the south-west.
The standard approach starts at Corriechoille, east of Spean Bridge. A track climbs through the forest towards the Lairig Leacach, and you leave it to climb the north ridge over Stob Coire na Gaibhre to the summit. Many walkers then follow the crest west over Stob a Choire Leith and Caisteal towards Stob Coire an Laoigh, before dropping back north to the glen.
The ridge is narrow in places, and the grey quartzite blocks are awkward underfoot. In winter the crest carries snow late and needs ice axe and crampons.
