About Lingmell
Lingmell rises above Wasdale Head, between Lingmell Gill and Piers Gill. It is an outlier of Scafell Pike, which stands 1.1 km south-east across Lingmell Col. Broad Crag is also 1.1 km south-east and Symonds Knott 1.4 km south. The north-west end falls in a steep spur, Lingmell Nose, towards Wasdale.
The usual route starts at Wasdale Head and climbs Brown Tongue beside Lingmell Gill to Lingmell Col, the same path many use for Scafell Pike. From the col, turn north-west up to the summit. Lingmell fits on a round with Scafell Pike, either on the way up or as a detour on the way down.
Piers Gill on the north-east side is a deep, steep-sided ravine. Walkers descending from Scafell Pike in cloud have strayed into it, so keep to the path. The summit view takes in Great Gable across the head of Wasdale and the length of Wast Water.
Lingmell is 807 m (2,648 ft) high with 72 m of prominence. It is in Cumbria, England. It is the 43rd highest of the 273 summits Peakify lists in Cumbria. The nearest summits are Middleboot Knotts (0.4 km), Scafell Pike (1.1 km) and Symonds Knott (1.4 km).
