About Mungrisdale Common
Mungrisdale Common is the wide moorland that spreads north-west from the back of Blencathra towards the Caldew valley. It has no crags or edges, and the summit is a small cairn on a gentle rise. Blencathra is 1.9 km south-east and Great Calva 2.9 km north-west. It is a Wainwright but not a Birkett.
Most walkers reach it from Blencathra, dropping north-west from the Atkinson Pike end over grass and peat. Another option comes up the Glenderamackan valley from Mungrisdale to the col below Bannerdale Crags, then heads west. Paths are faint and the ground is often wet.
In mist the plateau has few features to steer by, so take a compass bearing to and from the summit. On a clear day you look down into the quiet Caldew valley and across to Skiddaw.
Mungrisdale Common is 632 m (2,073 ft) high with 2 m of prominence. It is in Cumbria, England. It is the 229th highest of the 273 summits Peakify lists in Cumbria. The nearest summits are Gategill Fell Top (1.9 km), Knowe Crags (2.2 km) and Atkinson Pike (1.6 km).
Why do people climb Mungrisdale Common?
Most come to tick it off the 214 Wainwrights. It is a quiet, featureless moor rather than a dramatic summit.
Can you climb Mungrisdale Common with Blencathra?

Is Mungrisdale Common easy to navigate?
