About Rossett Pike

Rossett Pike rises at the head of Great Langdale, between Mickleden and Langstrath. Its south side drops in steep slopes to Rossett Gill, and Stake Pass crosses the ridge to the north. Bowfell lies 1.2 km south and Esk Pike 1.3 km west, with Angle Tarn tucked below their slopes.

The usual approach starts at the Old Dungeon Ghyll and walks up Mickleden. The old pony route zigzags up beside Rossett Gill to the col above, from where a short climb north-east reaches the summit. You can also come up by Stake Pass and follow the ridge south-west. Many walkers take in Rossett Pike on a longer day over Bowfell or Esk Pike.

The summit is a small rocky crest with a cairn. The Rossett Gill path is rough and steep, so take the pony route zigzags rather than the eroded line in the gill bed.
