Esk Pike rises to 885 m (2,904 ft) between Esk Hause to the north and Ore Gap to the south-east, at the head of Eskdale. It is a Wainwright, Hewitt, Nuttall, HuMP and Birkett, with 112 m of prominence. Ill Crag, the nearest higher top, is 1.3 km to the west, and Bowfell lies 1.3 km to the south-east. Allen Crags is 1.0 km to the north.
Most walkers reach Esk Pike from Esk Hause. From Great Langdale you climb Rossett Gill and pass Angle Tarn; from Borrowdale you climb Grains Gill from Seathwaite. A rough path then crosses the summit and drops to Ore Gap, where you can carry on to Bowfell. The top is rocky, with crags on the Eskdale side.
Esk Hause is a junction of paths, and walkers misread it in mist. Take a bearing from the shelter on the lower part of the pass.
