You reach the foot of the pinnacle from Glenbrittle by the long west ridge of Sgurr Dearg, a rough walk and scramble on gabbro and scree. The easiest line up the pinnacle itself is the long east ridge, a rock climb on a narrow, exposed edge with big drops on each side. Climbers abseil off the short west side.
The pinnacle needs a rope, a harness and someone who knows how to lead and set up the abseil. Many walkers hire a guide. The Cuillin rock also upsets compasses.
