Aonach Mor forms the northern half of a long ridge east of Ben Nevis, with its higher partner Aonach Beag 1.5 km to the south. It is a Munro and a HuMP. The Nevis Range gondola and ski tows climb its northern and western slopes, while the eastern side drops in cliffs into Coire an Lochain. Carn Mor Dearg lies 1.7 km to the south-west across the glen of the Allt Daim.
The gondola gives the shortest approach. From the top station you follow paths and service tracks beside the ski runs onto the summit plateau and walk south to the cairn. Without the gondola, you can climb through the forest from the base station or approach from Glen Nevis.
The plateau is flat and featureless, and the edge of Coire an Lochain carries cornices in winter. In cloud, take a careful bearing from the top.
