About Arthur's Pike
Arthur's Pike stands above Ullswater between Pooley Bridge and Howtown. From the lake it looks like a craggy wall; from the east it is a gentle rise on open moorland. Bonscale Pike lies 0.9 km south-west and Loadpot Hill, the next higher fell, 2.7 km south. It is a Wainwright and a Birkett.
The usual approach starts near Pooley Bridge and climbs onto Moor Divock, passing The Cockpit stone circle, then heads south-west over grass to the summit. From Howtown a steeper path climbs to the edge and follows it north past Bonscale Pike. Both routes are on grass and peat, with no rock work.
The best ground is the edge west of the summit, where a cairn looks straight down to Ullswater and across to Hallin Fell and the Helvellyn fells.
