About Little Mell Fell
Little Mell Fell stands on the north-east edge of the Lake District, north of Ullswater. It is a smooth, rounded hill of grass and bracken with a trig pillar on top. Great Mell Fell, its higher neighbour, lies 3.0km to the north-west, and Gowbarrow Fell is 2.7km south-west across the road.
The shortest way up leaves the lane at The Hause, a road col on the south-west side, and climbs grass to the summit. A longer approach starts at Thackthwaite on the east side. You will find no rock or steep ground on either route.
From the top you look over the Ullswater fells to the Helvellyn range, and east across the Eden valley to the Pennines. Many walkers pair it with Great Mell Fell on the same day.
