About Lord's Seat
Lord's Seat rises above Thornthwaite Forest on the west side of Bassenthwaite Lake. It is the highest of a small group of fells north of the Whinlatter Pass, with a heathery top and conifer plantations on much of its flanks. Barf lies 1.0km to the east, Broom Fell 1.0km north-west and Whinlatter 1.9km south-west. Grisedale Pike, the nearest higher fell, stands 4.0km to the south.
The usual ascent starts at the Whinlatter Forest visitor centre and follows forest roads and paths up to open ground below the summit. From Thornthwaite village, a path climbs through the trees beside Beckstones Gill to Barf, and a short walk west along the ridge leads to Lord's Seat. The top can be boggy.
Barf's front face above the road is steep, loose scree, with the whitewashed Bishop of Barf rock on its lower slopes. The direct line up that face is a serious scramble, so most walkers take the forest path round the side.
Lord's Seat is 552 m (1,811 ft) high with 237 m of prominence. It is in Lake District N, England. OS grid reference NY204265. It is the 5th highest of the 25 summits Peakify lists in Lake District N. The nearest summits are Ullister Hill (0.7 km), Broom Fell (1.0 km) and Barf (1.0 km).
