Meal Fell lies 1.1 km north-east across the narrow pass of Trusmadoor, with Great Sca Fell 1.9 km east and Knott 2.3 km east beyond it. Bakestall is 2.7 km south.

From Orthwaite, a path heads up the valley of Burn Tod Gill towards Trusmadoor and you climb west onto the ridge, or you take the slope straight up from the road. The ground is grass throughout.
