About Knott

Knott sits in the rolling hills north of Skiddaw known as Back o' Skiddaw. It is the highest of the Uldale and Caldbeck fells, a broad grassy top with a small cairn and long views north to the Solway Firth. Great Sca Fell lies 1.0km north-west, Great Calva 1.9km south, and Skiddaw, the nearest higher hill, 5.3km to the south-west.

From Mosedale in the east, a lane and track follow the River Caldew west to Grainsgill Beck, and a path climbs beside the beck onto the high ground near Great Lingy Hill. From the west, a path leaves Orthwaite, passes through Trusmadoor between Meal Fell and Great Cockup, and climbs over Great Sca Fell to the top. The ground is grass and peat, with few landmarks.

In mist the rounded tops here look alike. Carry a map and compass and check your direction when you leave the summit.
