About White Side
White Side sits on the main Helvellyn ridge, between Raise to the north and Helvellyn Lower Man to the south. Its summit is a broad, stony dome, and its slopes fall west to Thirlmere and east into Keppel Cove. Helvellyn lies 1.6 km south and Catstye Cam 1.3 km south-east.
From the east, a well-made path from Glenridding climbs past the old Greenside mine workings and zigzags up from Keppel Cove to the ridge. From the west, the White Side path climbs from Thirlspot on the Thirlmere side. Most walkers include White Side in a longer day on the ridge, linking it with Raise or Helvellyn.
White Side is a Wainwright, a Hewitt, a Nuttall and a Birkett. The ridge is broad and easy, but it is high and exposed to the weather. In winter the eastern slopes above Keppel Cove can hold snow and ice, so carry an axe and crampons and know how to use them.
White Side is 863 m (2,832 ft) high with 43 m of prominence. It is in Cumbria, England. It is the 14th highest of the 273 summits Peakify lists in Cumbria. The nearest summits are Helvellyn Lower Man (1.1 km), Raise (0.9 km) and Browncove Crags (1.1 km).
