About Yoke
Yoke rises between the Troutbeck valley to the west and Kentmere to the east. Ill Bell lies 1.0 km to the north along the same ridge, with Froswick beyond it, and Troutbeck Tongue sits in the valley floor 1.6 km to the west. Kentmere Pike faces it across Kentmere, 3.0 km to the east.
The west side of Yoke is a broad grassy slope. The east side is steeper and falls in crags towards Kentmere Reservoir. Most people climb it from Garburn Pass, the old track between Troutbeck and Kentmere, following a wall and then a clear path north over rough grass to the summit cairn.
Yoke is a Wainwright, a Hewitt, a Nuttall and a Birkett. Walkers doing the Kentmere Horseshoe clockwise reach it first and then carry on to Ill Bell, Froswick and the head of the valley before turning south over Kentmere Pike.
