About Buckbarrow

Buckbarrow is the rocky front of the high ground that rises north to Seatallan, 2.4 km away. It looks down on the road between Gosforth and Wasdale Head, and its crags give it more presence than its 423 m suggests. Middle Fell lies 1.9 km north-east across Greendale. It is a Wainwright and a Birkett.

Most walkers start at Greendale, near the foot of Wast Water, and climb grassy slopes to the side of the crags. The summit is a rocky knoll at the edge of a wide, grassy shelf. Many people continue north over the moorland to Seatallan and return by Middle Fell and Greendale.

The crags on the south face are steep, so keep to the walkers' line rather than heading straight up from the road. The view across Wast Water to the Screes is the reason to come.

Buckbarrow is 423 m (1,388 ft) high with 4 m of prominence. It is in Lake District C&W, England. OS grid reference NY135061. It is the 56th highest of the 70 summits Peakify lists in Lake District C&W. The nearest summits are Seatallan (2.4 km), Middle Fell (1.9 km) and Whin Rigg (3.0 km).
