About Foel-fras

Foel-fras sits at the northern end of the high Carneddau ridge. It reaches 944m (3097ft) and is a Furth, a Hewitt, a Nuttall and one of the Welsh 3000s. Llwytmor (849m) is 1.3km to the north-west, Garnedd Uchaf (925m) 1.5km south-west, Drum (771m) 1.9km north-east, and Foel Grach (975m), the nearest higher hill, 2.3km south.

The standard routes come from the north. From Abergwyngregyn a long climb leads onto the ridge over Drum. You can also start from the end of the road at Bwlch y Ddeufaen.

The summit is grassy with a trig pillar beside a stone wall. The northern Carneddau are broad and rounded, much gentler than the Ogwen side of the range. Welsh 3000s walkers finish here, and in cloud the wall helps you keep your line.
