About Yr Wyddfa - Snowdon

Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) is the highest mountain in Wales, higher than any summit in England, at the centre of Snowdonia National Park. It reaches 1085m (3560ft) and has 1039m of prominence, which makes it a Furth, a Hewitt, a Nuttall, a Marilyn, a county top and one of the Welsh 3000s. Crib y Ddysgl (1065m) is 0.8km to the north, Crib Goch (923m) 1.6km north-east, and Y Lliwedd (898m) 1.6km south-east. The name Yr Wyddfa means the tomb.

There are several main paths. The Llanberis Path is the longest and gentlest. The Pyg Track and the Miners' Track start at Pen y Pass. The Watkin Path, Rhyd Ddu Path and Snowdon Ranger Path come from the south and west. Scramblers climb via the Snowdon Horseshoe over Crib Goch.

The summit has a café, Hafod Eryri, and the Snowdon Mountain Railway runs to the top. In winter the slope above the railway on the Llanberis Path (Clogwyn Coch) is an accident blackspot.
