About Glyder Fawr

Glyder Fawr is the high point of the Glyderau, a plateau of broken rock between the Ogwen valley and the Llanberis Pass. It reaches 1001m (3284ft) and has 642m of prominence, which makes it a Furth, a Hewitt, a Nuttall, a Marilyn and one of the Welsh 3000s. Castell y Gwynt (972m) is 1.2km to the east, Glyder Fach (994m) 1.4km east, and Y Garn (947m) 2km north-west.

The classic route starts at Ogwen and climbs past Llyn Idwal to the Devil's Kitchen (Twll Du), a steep path beside a gully in the cliffs, then up rough slopes to the summit. From Pen y Pass a rough, eroded path climbs from the south.

The summit is a plateau of rocky spikes and boulders. In cloud it is easy to get lost, so take a map and compass.
